Occupational therapy

Occupational therapists work with clients to maximize their function, promote independence, and participate meaningfully in their daily activities (occupations!). We are skilled at Activity Analysis - assessing the skills needed to perform the task, the functional performance of the person engaging in the task, and the environment they are performing the task.

To better understand the baseline skills of a client and which areas of performance that OT can support a client, an occupational evaluation is initiated prior to treatment to assess including but not limited to the following skills:

  • Executive function skills

  • Motor skills

  • Sensory processing skills

  • Activity of Daily Living (ADL) adaptive skills - dressing, toileting, feeding, etc

  • Social participation skills - self-advocacy skills, self-regulation skills, etc

  • Instrumental Activity of Daily Living (ADL) skills - community navigation (e.g: taking public transit, pathfinding, etc), household skills, shopping skills, mealtime management skills, etc

Based on initial evaluation, a treatment plan/goals will be provided. The plan will consist of recommendations for areas of treatment focus as well as accommodations, tools, and strategies for course of treatment.
